Story Behind The Painting: Strings and Things Series

Story Behind The Painting: Strings and Things Series

Some women are drippin’ with diamonds, and others can’t get enough of shoes. My life long love? Swimsuits. When I walk into a store, they’re the first thing I’ll track down.

My love of suits began as a toddler. You know how most toddlers love princess dresses and scream to keep them on all day, everyday? As a little girl, I wanted to be in a swimsuit 24/7. I wore them in July; I wore them in January. The majority of my temper tantrums revolved around being forced out of my swimsuit. My parents still laugh and tell stories of knock-down-drag-outs when I’d be insistent on wearing them to the grocery store, to church, really to anywhere it’s NOT acceptable to wear one. They came up with a compromise – the swimsuits could, at the very least, be worn underneath my clothes.

Even through elementary school, I’d sometimes wear a suit under my school uniform. Hey, what if we decided to go to the beach right after school and I missed out on the chance for a nice swim or an opportunity to sunbathe because I wasn’t prepared?! That was my logic all along, I think. The obsession was probably because I loved to be in the sea, or in a pool, or on a boat.

How has this obsession carried on to my adult life? An abundance of swimsuits in my wardrobe. And of course, painting them. This little series of 11×14 watercolor prints, called “Strings and Things”, would be adorable for a water lover like me. I especially love the way they look hung together.

Love,

Caroline
